The main ingredients of whitewash are water, honey (sometimes mixed with molasses or sugar) and spices: ginger, St. John's wort, sage, etc. There are also low-alcohol options: with wine or cognac (up to 4–7% alcohol).
Non-alcoholic sbiten prepared according to the classic recipe has an average of the following composition (per 100 g):
- proteins and fats are practically absent - 0.02 and 0.04 g, respectively;
- carbohydrates - 13.14 g;
- potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium and magnesium (in honey);
- B and C vitamins.
Drink properties
The presence of honey and herbs gives sbitnu not only a pleasant taste, but also various beneficial properties. However, these ingredients also have a number of contraindications.

Energy value per 100 g:
- Dissolve molasses and honey in hot water.
- Boil for 15 minutes, add spices and keep on fire for another 15 minutes. Drink hot.
- To maintain the benefits of the drink, you can boil spices and molasses with water, cool the infusion to + 40 ° C and then add honey.

Energy value per 100 g:
- Peel the ginger root. Put it in water, add spices and bring to a boil.
- Add sugar and honey to the water, cook over low heat for 10 minutes, when the foam appears, remove it with a spoon.
- Leave to infuse for 30 minutes. Strain and warm if necessary.
- As in the previous recipe, honey can be added in the final stage.
