President of the United States Donald Trump approved the Disaster Declaration for most of Iowa after record flood damage.
The White House announced Saturday afternoon that the declaration clears the way for federal assistance in 61 of Iowa's 99 counties. Trump also announced a crash in Nebraska.
Individuals, businesses, and farms in Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, and Woodbury counties can apply for temporary home and house renovations, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs. Federal funding is available in 56 other Iowa counties, tribes and relevant local governments, as well as qualified private nonprofits based on cost-sharing for emergency work. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says damage assessments are ongoing, and additional zones can be assigned to help after the assessment is completed. Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota are particularly affected. According to preliminary data, Fremont County alone Iowa) losses of farmers amounted to 34 thousand tons of corn and more than 10 thousand tons of soy. In addition to direct damage to sown areas and livestock (in Nebraska alone, it amounted to $ 840 million), farmers lost a significant part of their corn and soybean reserves.
Flood losses will increase further - in the Midwest many roads have been damaged, and the sowing campaign will have to be postponed for 2-3 weeks until the water leaves and the farmers can put their equipment and land in order.
