Young potatoes of this year's harvest are sold in Ukraine at a price of 30 to 50 UAH / kg (depending on its quality and distribution network). In the capital, prices reach 60-70 UAH / kg.
Basically, all the young potatoes that are on sale are brought from other countries. But Ukrainian producers are also ready to harvest a new crop and start wholesale deliveries to the country's retail outlets.
The entry of young potatoes into the Ukrainian market is always accompanied by high prices and high hopes of producers for good profitability. This season, surprise was caused by prices for old potatoes, which did not fall below the level of 7-8 UAH / kg at retail and 4-4.5 UAH / kg at wholesale sites. The growth of prices for young potatoes was promoted by high prices for other vegetables and fruits. The price of washed vegetables in individual packaging was higher than the price of ordinary products.
In the past few years, higher selling prices and the demand for packaged products have also favored the development of branded products. It makes up an expensive segment of potatoes, in which prices for today almost reach 20 UAH / kg.Given the large-scale production and high demand, potato growing in Ukraine can have a very large development margin, since direct export deliveries to the EU countries are not yet possible.
