In the greenhouses of family farms in Transcarpathia, a selection of cucumbers began.
The harvest of cucumbers this year, Carpathian farmers evaluate as good. In Transcarpathia, these vegetables are mainly grown in small family farms. The local farmers claim that their cucumbers are grown without chemical additives.
A farmer from the village of Borzhavskoye Ivan Margitich grows 5 varieties of cucumbers in three greenhouses near the house. He assures that all Dutch seeds are verified. They were sown in January, and a month later they received seedlings. The first crop of cucumbers was harvested a week earlier.“The first cucumbers are always good. They are large, as they should be. Now they don’t buy small cucumbers, it should be 12-13 cm, ”says Ivan Margitich. Farmers say there is always a lot of work around cucumbers. They need to be constantly tied to a special grid.
Borzhav agrarians assure that their early cucumbers are clean and without “chemistry”, since there are no pests in spring. The earth is fertilized with manure and daily watered with spring water using drip irrigation. Each time, from 0.13 ha, Ivan Margitich collects 0.5 tons of cucumbers. So far, there is a crop twice a week, but very soon there will be more cucumbers. The farmer sells his vegetables in the wholesale markets, where they are sold by harvesters. For two weeks, the price of cucumbers dropped from 70 UAH / kg to 35 UAH / kg.
The collection of cucumbers in Transcarpathian greenhouses will continue until September. Then in the greenhouses sow autumn salad.
