During the Cattle Breeding Forum, Dr. Ivan Milanov delivered a lecture on “Feeding Teen Calfs”. According to him, feeding the calves is underestimated by farmers, and this is due to the fact that it only creates costs for the livestock farm. However, this later turns out to be one of the main traps for the development of the herd.
“Young cows should not be seen as parasites on the farm, but as future investments that will work for you over time,” the doctor says.
What do you need to grow a quality chick?
“In order for the animal to have high productivity, genetics plays no more than 20–25%. The remaining 75–80% are due to the totality of all external conditions surrounding the animals: suitable buildings and conditions in them and proper nutrition at different stages of development. Each of these factors works together to make animals reach their genetic potential. ”

Recommended weight standards in the development of female breeding calves:
- 3 months - 95 - 110 kg;
- 6 months - 180 - 200 kg;
- 12 months - 330 - 250 kg;
- 15 months - 380 - 400 kg;
- 24 months - 600 - 620 kg.
