Analysts on the Russian market concluded that in the near future, domestic consumers should prepare for higher prices for buckwheat and bread. Factors that influenced the rise in price of bakery products and buckwheat are rooted in grain deficiency and higher fertilizer prices.

So, experts recalled that in 2017, a record amount of buckwheat was collected on Russian fields. The generous harvest influenced the fact that the price of groats, beloved by the Russians, decreased by 16% compared to the previous season. However, the harvest of 2018 on buckwheat fields left much to be desired. The fact is that agrarians reduced the crops of this crop, and this led to a reduction in gross grain harvest by as much as 40%.

In addition, the cost of fertilizers, which fed growing buckwheat and the rest of the grain, increased significantly, as did the price of plant protection products. The rise in price of fertilizing and herbicides provoked a rise in price of both buckwheat and bakery products made from Russian wheat, rye and other cereals.

The increase in the price of wheat also affected the increase in bread prices, which rose by 54% in 2018. Rye has become more expensive by 30%. And this is not to mention the fact that the increase in expenses for the payment of housing and communal services and the increase in rental prices for premises and land also did not affect the cost of bread in the best way for the consumer.

According to market analytical experts, the share of profit in the retail price from manufacturers of white bread from flour of the 1st and 2nd grades is only 3.5%, which is the lowest indicator in the food industry.
