A tangible increase in the supply of greenhouse cucumber grown in the southern regions of Ukraine led to a rapid drop in prices for it. This is stated in the message of the analysts of the EastFruit project.
Currently, greenhouses in the country ship their products at a price of 7-10 UAH / kg ($ 0.26-0.37 / kg), which is 34% cheaper than in the last days of last week.
Specialized experts in this case talk about the expected June collapse in product prices, which they explain as an increase in the supply of vegetables in closed ground. So, over the week the cost of cucumbers fell by 40%. Today, the vegetable is already sold at 5-7 UAH / kg ($ 0.19-0.26 / kg).
A positive point for the owners of greenhouse plants is that the decrease in the cost of the product occurred in the last days of the sale of cucumbers of the first crop rotation.
Now greenhouses are working on cleaning greenhouses and are preparing to sell cucumbers of the second crop rotation, the harvest of which will begin after 3-4 weeks.
It is worth noting that despite a sharp drop in prices, cucumbers today are shipped from greenhouse plants 3-3.5 times more expensive than they were in early June 2018. Last year, farms were not able to sell their products for more than 4 UAH / kg .
