The greenhouse complex from the village of Vysokovo, near Kostroma, is ready to plant cucumber seedlings in the third block. Vegetables will grow on an area of 1.7 ha. To increase productivity, Reformer was selected.
Reformer cucumbers not only provide high productivity in winter conditions, but also have excellent taste. This variety was tested, and it showed excellent results, says Alevtina Fedotova, manager of the third block of the greenhouse complex.
Vysokovsky greenhouse complex was able to start production of winter cucumbers due to the modernization of the energy complex. A new 3.3 MW power complex and modern lighting equipment were installed last year. Thanks to this, vegetables can now be grown even on gray winter days.
Cucumber seedlings are rooted in new beds. All employees, including manufacturers and the chief agronomist, closely monitor the growth process.
Europeans do not like cucumbers with spikes and call them "Russian cucumbers."
Direct speech: “Winter cultivation has its own characteristics. Plants receive additional lighting 16 hours a day and yield twice as fast. 15 days after they were planted, we can see the first cucumbers. However, this means that the work here is quite intense. Therefore, only the most experienced and responsible employees in winter greenhouses work for us, ”said Alevtina.
The first cucumbers should be collected by December 10th. Harvest in the last month of the year should be 67 tons, and it will gradually increase. In January 2020, it is planned to collect 170 tons.
