The Ministry of Food Industry is focusing on building cold chain infrastructure across the country to seamlessly transfer perishable products from production to consumption.
NEW DELHI: “The Ministry of Food Industry has authorized 37 megafood parks and 297 integrated cold chain projects across the country to fill the gaps in the value chain and create a cold chain network,” said Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Food Industry.
According to him, in addition to megatoparks and an integrated refrigeration chain, 45 projects for agro-processing clusters were approved, 58 projects were cleared to create feedback and direct links.
In addition, he said, the country approved 219 projects to create and expand processing and preserving capacities.
The most serious problems of the Indian agricultural sector are the lack of normal roads in the country, as well as the long-term storage of products.
As part of the green operations, five projects were approved and another 150 projects within the framework of food testing laboratories.
According to Teli, these schemes are based on demand, mainly from private investors.
