The National Union of Farmers of Great Britain (NFU) said that due to continuing political uncertainty, investments in the UK dairy sector are “suspended”, and “main” jobs remain vacant.
The Union fears the ongoing political impasse, and the uncertain post-Brexit landscape causes “devastating” damage to dairy farming.
The European Union is the largest international trading partner for the UK dairy sector.
According to Michael Oaks, chairman of the board of directors of the NFU dairy industry, after the UK withdraws from the EU, the sector has opportunities, but their implementation has stalled due to uncertainties in the future.
“Dairy farming, like all enterprises, requires long-term planning. But after several months of negotiations, we still have no confidence in our future, and this is causing enormous damage. We are still in the dark about what trading environment we will work in, and whether we will have access to sufficient labor to carry out the basic functions at our dairy farms, or what the future domestic agricultural policy of Great Britain will look like, ”said the chairman of the council directors of the dairy industry NFU.
