Potato prices in Ukraine began to decline. Now in the wholesale market of ORSP "Shuvar" potatoes cost 7-9 UAH / kg. (0.25-0.32 euro / kg.), That is, in less than a week the price fell by 25%, Info-Shuvar reports.

“At the end of last week, a decrease in prices on the domestic market was mainly due to an increase in potato imports from Belarus. Since the beginning of this week, the downward trend has intensified significantly thanks to an increase in supply from domestic potato producers.

Late varieties are harvested today in all regions, thanks to this, prices are not only reduced, they are almost equal throughout Ukraine, ”said Tatyana Getman, head of the Analytics department of the Shuvar ORSP.

Recall that market participants did not exclude the possibility of cheaper potatoes this week.

Since the beginning of summer, prices for Ukrainian potatoes of a new crop have been at a record high, which was 2-2.5 times higher than the prices of the previous year. Prices so far remain at record highs, but the Analytics department of the Shuvar ORSP noted that today we are talking about the biggest wave of decline in potato prices since the beginning of this season.

“Importers and Ukrainian commercial producers today have to compete in the market with potatoes from the population. Private households also decided to make money at high prices this year, these sellers do not consider the cost of producing potatoes, therefore they are quite flexible in terms of price.

Of course, this affects the overall level of potato prices in Ukraine, ”added Tatyana Getman.
