According to the results of phytosanitary monitoring of agricultural land, in the Rivne and Volyn regions, foci of the spread of golden potato nematode were found, the State Food and Drug Administration said.
During monitoring and inventory of old foci of quarantine organisms, a golden potato nematode was detected in the territory: one district of the Volyn region on an area of 3.2 hectares and one district of the Rivne region on an area of 20.11 hectares.
Based on the results of the audit, department specialists issued an order to apply phytosanitary measures against quarantine organisms. In addition, the procedure for moving regulatory objects in quarantine zones and beyond was determined.For information, the golden potato nematode parasitizes on the roots of potatoes, tomatoes and other solanaceous. It very weakens the plants, as a result of which they become frail, turn yellow, form tubers of small size or do not give a crop at all. Losses from the nematode account for 30-80% of the crop.
The damage from the parasite also includes the ban on the movement of the infected product, since the golden potato nematode belongs to the organisms of internal and external quarantine.
