The current year was not the most favorable for the Altai Territory agrarians involved in buckwheat cultivation. The fact is that the low profitability of Altai buckwheat in the current market is forcing local farmers to actively reduce the area under sowing of this crop.
Two years earlier, a record amount of buckwheat ripened in the Altai open spaces, which led to a decrease in the purchase price.
The situation that has arisen has significantly reduced the enthusiasm of the farmers in the region and made me wonder: is there any point in principle to grow buckwheat, if it takes a lot of effort, but is sold at a low price.
As a result, many agricultural entrepreneurs decided to abandon the cultivation of buckwheat in favor of cultivating a more profitable product. In particular, wheat.
So, some of the largest producers of buckwheat have actually begun the process of transition to wheat, which is much more marginal and provides high profit per hectare than buckwheat.
It will not be amiss to recall that over the past year, buckwheat crops in the Russian Federation have significantly decreased - the total area has decreased by almost forty percent.
For example, in the Siberian open spaces, buckwheat lands decreased one and a half times, in the Urals - more than half. The rate of reduction of buckwheat territories in the Volga region is 1.7 times. Such information was shared by analysts of the All-Russian community of grain producers.
