Last week, most farmers in Ukraine finished selling white cabbage of the “old” crop, EastFruit experts said.
Almost all wholesale and retail companies have already begun trading in early cabbage. Because of this, traders in last year’s product had to lower prices to 20-25 UAH / kg ($ 0.76-0.95 / kg), which is 15% cheaper than in the last days of last week.
Last week, the cost of young cabbage also went down, which was influenced by the seasonal increase in the supply of cabbage for the 2019 harvest. A rapid drop in prices was avoided due to the high demand for the product both in Ukraine and not in the foreign market.
In the last days of the last working week in the south of Ukraine, the 2019 crop vegetable was offered at a price of 6-7 UAH / kg ($ 0.23-0.27 / kg). Transcarpathian products were sold at a price of 5-6 UAH / kg ($ 0.19-0.23 / kg), which is 20% less than a week earlier.
It is noteworthy that the cost of current young cabbage on the shelves of the country is on average 19% higher than in the last days of May 2018. A large number of market players believe that the downward trend in prices in this segment will continue. They substantiate their position by a constant increase in the supply of new cabbage.
