Modern photonics robots ACTPHAST 4.0 will collect and pack strawberries for guests of the Wimbledon tournament in less than a week. Every year, visitors to this sporting event consume about 34 tons of this berry.
The new batch of ACTPHAST 4.0 robots was created by developers of the European Union. They gently grab the berry without causing mechanical damage to it, and put it in a basket.
The entire work cycle fits in 5 seconds. For 16 hours of labor, the robot is able to collect 180-360 kg of berries. And a hired worker can collect up to 50 kg of strawberries per day, which depends on work experience and skill.
Picking berries is always difficult, as they are soft and easily damaged by excessive pressure. Robots cannot sensoryize whether strawberries are ripe. And ACTPHAST 4.0 robots are able to detect the ripeness of the berry and delicately pick it.
At the same time, his actions are very similar to how people do it without injuring a fragile surface, said CEO Tom Cohen. For information, strawberries with cream are a classic Wimbledon dessert that must be washed down with champagne.
Local catering does not provide any other options for desserts and drinks. Moreover, each strawberry package contains exactly 10 berries grown in England. And, as consumers say, they are completely tasteless, although on average during the tournament, spectators eat about 28 tons of strawberries.
